The Professional Master’s in Biotechnology (PSM Biotech) is a two-year degree program hosted at the Department of Biology with courses taught by diverse faculty from Temple University, industry, and government. Students work directly with our research faculty on real-world projects, gaining hands-on skills necessary to solve emerging problems. The program will culminate in a research project based at Temple University or one of its industry and government partners in Philadelphia. The PSM Biotech program offers students the knowledge and real-world skills to tackle today’s challenges in human health and the environment. From drug discovery to biofuels and emerging diseases to environmental remediation, the PSM Biotech program will prepare tomorrow’s research, policy, and business leaders.
This program is developed for students who have completed their baccalaureate degree, however, undergraduates entering Temple through the Global 3+2 programs can also apply through the global 3+2 program for Biotechnology. For more information please visit the Global Programs Website.

Eligible CST undergraduate students pursuing their BA or BS degree, can use up to 12 specified graduate credits approved by the school/college to fulfill requirements for their undergraduate degree. Upon graduation from their undergraduate program, students move seamlessly into their graduate program, which they complete, in most cases, in one additional year. Applications accepted in the Spring semester for eligible rising juniors with GPAs above 3.25. For more information about eligibility and the application process inquire with CST advising or contact the PSM in Biotechnology program.
The PSM in Biotechnology degree program can be completed in 4-5 semesters which includes one summer semester. Among the working professionals who are seeking advancement and career mobility, a 4-5 semester training is often not feasible, and the interest in a shorter 1-2 semester certificate program has been frequently requested. The Steering Committee has therefore considered a shorter, transcripted certificate program, which could be completed in 1-2 semesters, serving the working professionals who need academic credentials for career advancement.
